India restores hospital oxygen supply after 63 people died

Indian health authorities on Monday delivered oxygen to a public hospital where 63 people, half of which were children died of encephalitis (acute inflammation of the brain) on Friday, as it ran out of medical supplies because of unpaid bills.
The death triggered public outrage.

The deaths of the children have again exposed India’s underfunded and poorly managed public healthcare despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s vows to revamp the system.
Hundreds of people die each year in India of encephalitis, a mosquito-borne disease common during the monsoon season, and no medical official directly linked the recent deaths to a lack of oxygen.

Sexuality education necessary, but not in schools — Stakeholders

Stakeholders in the education sector in some states of the North West and North East have expressed divergent views on the teaching of Sexuality Education in schools and at home.
In a survey conducted by NAN, some of the stakeholders said early knowledge of the subject was necessary to protect children from sex predators while others said it would corrupt morals.
Those against the idea also claimed that the two major religions in the country, Islam and Christianity, did not support the teaching of the subject to children.
